Case Study: Aleppo Township Authority
GovUnity worked with the Aleppo Township Authority to create a modern website design to better serve their audience. The new website is user-friendly and mobile-friendly. The Authority’s site was built on our intuitive Content Management System, which allows their staff to easily update meeting minutes, notices, and other site content.
Notable features of the new site include:
- Responsive Design
- An FAQ Module
- E-Payment Integration
- Custom Contact Page
- On-Site Search Capability
- PDF hosting
GovUnity’s personalized website design and development process consists of 4 phases:
Phase 1: Project Strategy Discussion:
To kick off this project, GovUnity’s lead project designer held a screen-share meeting with the Authority’s staff to discuss likes and what they dislikes of the existing site. We also went over their goals for the new site. Additionally, the Authority provided examples of sites that they liked.
Following the initial phone meeting GovUnity maintained communication with Authority staff primarily through email. The Authority provided content for the new site. However, they did not have a logo, so, the GovUnity team worked with the Authority to create a new logo for the new site. We also provided appropriate stock photography.
Phase 2: Initial Design & Content Population:
The GovUnity team created a live development environment for the new Aleppo Township Authority website on our own site. In this environment we developed a custom design for the new Authority site. We then shared the link to the development site with the Authority’s staff. This allowed them to monitor our progress, provide feedback, and request changes to the site in real-time.
After the design was finalized, the GovUnity team migrated content from the existing Authority website to the new site. We also added other information provided by Authority staff to the development site. Communication between our team and their staff continued throughout development.
Phase 3: Testing & Search Engine optimization (SEO):
Our team considers SEO throughout all of our projects. It is not an afterthought, but rather it is at the forefront of everything we do. During the design phase of the project our team:
- Ensures images have appropriate tags.
- Checks all links to minimize redirects and avoid dead links and 404 pages.
- Writes appropriate SEO pages titles and meta descriptions, using the keywords discovered in the planning phase.
- Ensures all content and tags utilize appropriate keywords.
After the website launches our team also submits an XML sitemap file to major search engines for indexing.
We also prioritize website accessibility. During the design phase our team:
- Makes sure that images have appropriate alternative text.
- Creates a design that meets contrast requirements.
- Conducts accessibility audits throughout development.
- We also include accessibility best practices when training clients.

Phase 4: Website Launch & Training:
For this project, training was completed after the new website launched. This is because when scheduling the site launch and switch to the new hosting account, the pre-existing Aleppo Township Authority website went down. The Authority had no success contacting their previous designer/host to fix the problem. So, the GovUnity team got the new website ready for a quick launch.
After successfully launching the new site, GovUnity’s lead web designer, completed training with the Authority’s staff. Training included: a one-on-one Zoom call and a personalized training document. During this time Authority staff had the freedom to ask unlimited questions, and any last-minute concerns about the new site were quickly addressed.
